Congratulations to Susan Tingstad for successfully completing her PADI Divemaster course with Kelowna Divers. Divemaster is the first professional qualification in the PADI ranks and will enable Susan to work worldwide as a dive guide or progress to become a fully fledged Open Water Instructor.

Susan commenced her internship in June 2016 and we were really impressed at her ability and dedication to juggling lots of diving in and around being a busy professional and full time mum. There are lots of separate modules to complete for the course including instructor mentoring, personal dive and rescue skills, group dive briefing and management skills, theory development and final exam which by the way she smashed with an awesome 100% passmark.

Candidates must also produce a workable Emergency Action Plan and a Dive Site map. It is a fact that Susan commenced the course already as a fantastic diver and so her focus was on interacting with the dive students and enthusing them into a new world of diving. Susan won’t mind me telling you that she is a cautious diver but we think those self preservation qualities are what make her a superb diver and role model for new divers male and female coming into the sport.

We are very proud to say that we only taught Susan to dive in 2013 here in Kelowna and in three short years she has completed all her training and logged 130 mostly cold water dives. She has completed several BC Coast trips, is ice diver certified and has dove in the Dominican Republic and Roatan. Susan is an active member of the Okanagan Dive Club, and can often be found helping newer divers develop their own skills and confidence. When it comes to her favourite place to dive, she chose 2 dives; The ferociously fast Skookumchuk rapids on our temperate BC Sunshine Coast and a slightly warmer Mary’s Place swim through dive off the coast of Roatan Honduras.

Most local divers will know Susan as a friendly cheerful person on our dive sites. Be sure to congratulate her the next time you see her.
